Moorpark Receives National Recognition for Tree City USA, Arbor Day Event to Be Held on April 27

The National Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Moorpark Tree City USA for the 12th consecutive year.  This year Arbor Day event will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Poindexter Park, located at 500 Poindexter Ave from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The public is invited to attend and take home a free 5-gallon tree.

The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, sponsors the Tree City USA program. To receive this recognition, Moorpark has met the standards to become a Tree City USA community by having a tree ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observation and proclamation. In addition, the City received the Arbor Day Foundation Tree Growth Award for the 8th year in recognition of achievements in environmental improvements and encouragement of higher levels of tree care in Moorpark.

In addition to celebrating the benefit of trees, the event will include a ceremonial tree planting, and the City’s Arborist will be available to answer questions from residents about the proper way to plant and care for trees.

The City encourages the public to come out, show their support, and take home a free tree to plant.
