Role of the City Engineer
The City Engineer performs professional engineering work, including, but not limited to:
- Direct, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the work of professional staff and contractors performing engineering work for the city
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations
- Meetings with potential developers to discuss general engineering requirements for projects
- Review and oversight of land development projects, subdivision maps, and associated improvement plans
Responsibilities
In addition, the City Engineer is also responsible for the following tasks:
- Administer engineering consultant contract
- Annual Street Mileage Report
- Custodian of Records (Building and Safety, and Engineering)
- Encroachment permit and inspections
- Floodplain administrator
- Land development review and construction inspection
- NPDES compliance (construction)
- Subdivision dedication and vacation review
- Traffic engineering
The City Engineer checks and reviews development plans in accordance with the Ventura County Public Works Standards and City of Moorpark Standards for grading, street improvements, drainage, and development in the public rights of way and on private property.
